In 1876 there were only two Baptists in Grant County. William Davis, a Baptist minister and missionary from Virginia moved into the county as superintendent of the free school in Petersburg, West Virginia. In 1882 there were a total of seven Baptists in the area, and they decided to form a Baptist church.

On May 6,1883, Reverend L.W. Holden, Secretary of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, presided over a meeting during which the North Mill Creek Baptist Church was officially organized. On May 20, 1883 the church members met and decided to build a church on the site of the old Bergdoll School. Work progressed rapidly and in August of that year the frame of the 28x40 church was raised and the roof was put in place. The remaining work was completed in the spring of 1884. Through the years many improvements have been made; too numerous to mention here.

North Mill Creek Baptist Church is a fellowship of believers that purpose to know God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to equip believers through discipleship. Showing God's love, we strive to reach a hungry world with Jesus Christ through obedience to Him.

The emphasis of our ministry is to see consistent spiritual growth in our people by the effective preaching and teaching of God’s Word; to promote love and fellowship through personal example; and to offer areas of service through multiple ministries.

North Mill Creek Baptist Church of Petersburg, WV is a member of the American Baptist Convention/ USA, and the West Virginia Baptist Convention. Our church adopts the traditional Baptist doctrines as set forth in the New Hampshire Confession of Faith of 1833.
